Ultimate Thor's Hammer: Why it's in Unworthy Thor & Ultimate Mjolnir's Powers || Weekly One Shot

The Unworthy Thor #1 starts us on Thor Odinson's road to redemption as he searches for a new source of power: Ultimate Thor's Hammer!

With the begging of The Unworthy Thor we see an Odinson that has been broken and lost his arm while dealing with his loss of power, but why has Thor become unworthy and how did he get here? On top of that, where did this new source of power come from? Luckily we jusgt need to backtrack a little bit to get our answers.

Thor became unworthy as part of the Original Sin event in 2014, which was written by Jason Aaaron, who happened to write every Thor series we will be talking about. What this means is that The Unworthy Thor has been in the planning stages since 2014! After the death of Uatu the watcher on the moon we see a final showdown on the moon where Thor and Nick Fury are fighting in space. Fury whispers in the ear of Thor and all of a sudden the Asgardian is deemed unworthy and can no longer lift his hammer Mjolnir. This is the beginning.

We then see Thor a few weeks or months later in Thor #1 (2015), surrounded by Asgardians on the moon, still trying to lift the hammer, that will no longer budge. Not even for Odin. Over the course of the Thor series he would gain his battle axe, lose his arm and spend most of his time either fighting the new female Thor or trying to figure out who she is. Of course, as time passes we find ourselves knee deep in Secret Wars. This is where we see the arrival of Ultimate Thor and his axe/hammer combo that we will call "Ultimate Mjolnir". Ultimate Thor is a homicide detective in the Thor Corp, solving the murders of all kinds of Donald Blakes and Jane Fosters that have happened around Battleworld. By the end of this he finds himself aligned with the Unworthy Thor and the new Mighty Thor in a battle against Doomgard and God King Doom. In the middle of battle everything is shifted back into the standard Earth-616 reality but a rift in space sees a comet or meteor blazing through space and headed toward Old Asgard. When it crash lands we see that it is Ultimate Thor's Hammer; Ultimate Mjolnir. It makes another appearance in Mighty Thor #5 on some kind of space ship and we also see Unworthy Thor captured and being held by these aliens. That is how the Ultimate hammer ended up in Earth-616. Now the question is: what are the powers of Ultimate Thor's Hammer?

According to Jonathan Hickman in the Ultimate Thor mini-series, Ultimate Thor is based off of technology since he wasn't an actual good. His strength, flight and invulnerability were provided by his aromor. The hammer is actually the power supply for the armor and includes a fourth dimensional teleporter, it can control the weather and even ionize the environment which means it is able to call lightning. Secret Wars does give Jason Aaron the ability to play with this a little bit, because technology does not appear to be the source of Ultimate Thor's powers in the Thor tie-in to Secret Wars. However, only time will tell.
