Japan Hakone Owakudani Kurotamago-Black Egg/ Walking around Hakone w/ Family.

Kurotamago (black egg) is a delicacy that can only be eaten in Owakudani. It is a black boiled egg, just as the name suggests. Iron sticks to the shell of a raw egg, boiled in the hot springs at eighty degrees Celsius for 1 hour. Then hydrogen sulfide reacts with iron, creating a black coating. Another 15 minutes of steaming, and the egg will be complete. Kurotamago can only be purchased at Kurotamago House. It is said that one egg adds seven years to your life, making it popular with visitors.

Enveloped in magnificent nature and filled with power
The view of Owakudani from the observatory is impressive. The desolate mountain surface and the eruption of smoke create a unique scenery that convinces what was once called Jigokudani. There are many scenic spots while riding the ropeway, and you can enjoy the view of the valley bottom spreading below on the way from Sounzan to Owakudani, and the view of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi on the way to Togendai.

Between Mt. Sounzan and Owakudani, there is a place that crosses a valley about 130m from the ground, and a powerful valley bottom spreads out below you.

If you take the ropeway to Taoyuandai in the evening, you can overlook Lake Ashi where the lake surface is shining.



Location:

From Hakone Yumoto Station (OH51), the ride to Gora Station (OH57) takes about 40 minutes on the Hakone Tozan Railway. Switch to Hakone Tozan Cablecar, and get off at Sounzan Station after a 10 minute ride. Switch to Hakone Ropeway, and get off at Owakudani Station (OH63) after a 10 minute ride.
