Amazing Spider-Man #798 is the first appearance of the Red Goblin, but it is a combination of characters with a lot of history inside the Spider-Man story. First you have the Green Goblin Norman Osborn, who has been one of the most iconic villains in Spider-Man's history. Then you have Carnage, which is they psychotic symbiote created as an offshoot of Venom and serial killer Cletus Kasady. While it might seem like a mashup up two villains, the motivation for this stretches back to Superior Spider-Man, when Peter Parker cured Osborn of the Goblin Serum and made him sane. Unable to regain his power and madness, Norman search high and low, even dabbling in magic, trying to find a solution to his problem. That is until he found it in the Carnage symbiote. What kind of madness, mayhem and murder will this gruesome two-some unleash on Spider-Man and his family? We are about to find out.
