OSS 117, LE CAIRE NID D'ESPION et sa suite OSS 117 RIO NE REPOND PLUS ont été des films cultes à retardement. D'abord boudés, laissant de marbre tant le mélange pastiche de film d'espionnage et humour offensant était perturbant.
Repris des livres de Jean Bruce sur une idée des producteurs, écrit par Jean Francois Halin et Michel Hazanavicius et réalisé par ce dernier, les deux films ont été écrit pour un Jean Dujardin au sommet.
Seulement, après The Artist, Michel Hazanavicius souhaitait passer à autre chose.
Restait Jean Francois Halin et Jean Dujardin, déterminés à ramener notre agent secret à l'écran une 3eme fois, voire une 4eme fois.
Mais le film a déçu...Mais si, comme pour le tout premier, le film était une bombe à retardement ?
