Push Button Ignition
Your vehicle is equipped with a push button ignition switch.
With your NISSAN Intelligent Key™ on your person, enter the driver's seat and depress the brake pedal on Continuously Variable Transmission models, or the clutch on models with a Manual Transmission. Then push the ignition switch to turn the engine ON.
If your vehicle is equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission, once your ignition is ON, you must depress the brake pedal in order to move the shift lever out of the PARK position.
Here's how to turn your engine OFF. Put the shift lever in PARK on CVT models, or NEUTRAL on models with a Manual Transmission. Then push the ignition switch to turn the vehicle OFF. The ignition switch will default to LOCK when any door is opened or closed after the engine is turned OFF.
In the event your Intelligent Key battery is almost discharged, there is still a backup method to start your engine. A low battery will cause a guide light on the Intelligent Key port to blink. You will find the Intelligent Key port to the left of the steering column.
In this situation, inserting the Intelligent Key into the port will allow you to start the engine. Be sure the front side faces up and the key ring end faces towards you. Then follow the normal start procedures. To remove the Intelligent Key from the port you must first push the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
The push button ignition switch should never be operated while driving except during emergency situations. If you encounter an emergency while driving and need to turn off the ignition, the emergency engine shut off will work when you rapidly push the push button ignition switch 3 consecutive times or if you push and hold the push button ignition switch for more than 2 seconds.
