Selon une tradition orale carcassonnaise, c'est au IXème siècle après Jésus-Christ, alors que Carcassonne et sa région sont entre les mains du roi musulman Ballak, que son épouse, Dame Carcas, joue un rôle légendaire dans l'Histoire de la cité.
