The midday sun beat down on Matt's truck, turning the cab into a sauna. He sat impatiently, watching the world go by through the dusty windshield. He'd come to this wooded area on the outskirts of town to clear some brush, but the rumble of his chainsaw had been interrupted by a tiny, frantic mewing.
He found the calico kitten huddled in the middle of the dirt road, its eyes wide with fear. The tiny creature was matted with dirt and shivering, clearly lost and alone. It was a heart-wrenching sight, and Matt couldn't leave it to its fate.
